The Digital Resilience Index (IRN), run by the aDRI association, scores an organisation's technological dependence across eight levers. Bunker builds a European, open-source, re-internalisable infrastructure that answers those eight levers from the ground up.

Sovereignty describes where your providers come from. Resilience describes what happens the day one of them raises prices, changes course or gets cut off by a political decision. That shift is the heart of our post-cloud vision, which moves from a flag on an invoice to a real ability to keep operating.

The same reality underpins the IRN. Over 90% of Western data flows through US infrastructure, and the market share of European cloud providers has fallen back to 15%. Taking back control comes down to architecture first.

From sovereignty to resilience

A provider does not strengthen your resilience by ticking a "hosted in Europe" box. It strengthens it by leaving you free to leave, take everything back and keep running without it, the day it raises prices or changes course.

Reversibility and open source carry almost every resilience lever. Because each layer is open and rests on standards, you can take it back onto your own hardware, with our private AI and the full set of our sovereign alternatives.

What we do not claim (yet)

Resilience is earned by being honest about your blind spots. Our security management system is aligned with ISO 27001 and self-assessed, not certified by a third party to date; SecNumCloud remains a longer-term goal. We say so plainly in our published security posture.

We are also working on a formal skills-transfer offer and a substantiated story on the environmental footprint of our datacenters. We would rather name them than paper over them.

The IRN and the aDRI, in plain terms

The Digital Resilience Index is an open standard run by the aDRI (Association Digital Résilience Initiative), presented as a common language for executive committees, comparable to what B Corp represents for social responsibility. It is neither a regulatory norm nor one more compliance tool.

Bunker does not publish this index and does not sell it. We build the infrastructure that meets its levers. The official methodology is published at digitalresilience.org.

Frequently asked questions about digital resilience

What is digital resilience?

It is an organisation's ability to keep operating its critical systems without a blocking dependency, even if a provider raises prices, changes its terms, goes bankrupt or gets cut off by a regulatory decision. Where sovereignty looks at the nationality of providers, resilience looks at your real room to manoeuvre.

Resilience or sovereignty: what is the difference?

Sovereignty is a legal and geographic state. Resilience is an operational and dynamic property. You can be hosted in Europe and still be fully dependent on proprietary software you cannot take back. Conversely, an open-source, re-internalisable infrastructure stays operable whatever happens to its provider.

How do you reduce dependence on a cloud provider?

Three concrete levers: open standards (Kubernetes, S3, PostgreSQL) so your workloads stay portable, open-source code to inspect and maintain every layer, and a reversibility clause that plans for taking everything back onto your own hardware. The first two make the third real rather than theoretical.

Is Bunker certified by the Digital Resilience Index (IRN)?

No. Bunker is neither affiliated with the aDRI nor IRN-certified. The index is published and labelled by the aDRI, an independent third party. What we claim is an architecture that natively meets the resilience levers, staying European, open source and re-internalisable.

How do you guarantee reversibility in practice?

Through three cumulative conditions: open source end to end (no proprietary brick holds you), open standards (the same APIs everywhere), and recovery actually tested on your hardware or another host. Without the first two, the reversibility written into the contract stays a promise.
