Digital workplace suite hosting: a sovereign host that runs your tools in Europe

Bunker hosts and operates the open source building blocks of a sovereign digital workplace suite for your organisation: files, identity, e-signature, scheduling, private AI, business apps. Hosted in Europe, outside the CLOUD Act, with human support and the option to take everything back in-house.

Looking for a digital workplace suite host for your company, public body or non-profit, without depending on a US vendor? Hosting a digital workplace suite covers updates, backups, connecting every account to a single directory and support when a user is locked out.

That is what Bunker does: we deploy open source software on our European infrastructure, run it day to day, and you keep control of your data. This page explains what a sovereign digital workplace suite is, what the French State offers with La Suite numérique, and what we actually host today.

What is a sovereign digital workplace suite?

A digital workplace suite brings together an organisation's everyday tools: file storage and sharing, document editing, calendar, messaging, video calls, identity management. The suite is sovereign when three conditions hold: data is hosted in Europe, the operator is not subject to a foreign jurisdiction such as the US CLOUD Act, and the software is open enough that you can change provider without losing everything.

In practice, these suites run on open source software. The code is public, the formats are standard, and several hosts can run the same building blocks. The real choice is therefore who hosts it, who operates it and on what terms.

La Suite numérique, the French State's suite, according to DINUM

La Suite numérique is the set of collaboration tools that DINUM, the French interministerial digital directorate, provides to public servants. According to its official website, it brings together the following building blocks, built on open source standards such as Matrix, LiveKit and Grist Core:

  • Docs : collaborative text editor
  • Visio : video conferencing
  • Grist : collaborative spreadsheet and database
  • Tchap : instant messaging
  • Fichiers : file management and sharing
  • Messagerie : e-mail
  • FranceTransfert : large file transfer

DINUM states that the suite serves more than 500,000 public servants every month, and that Docs and Visio are hosted on SecNumCloud-qualified infrastructure. Access is limited to French central government staff and the people they invite for public service work. A company or a non-profit cannot sign up directly.

Outside the State, there are two routes: self-host this free software yourself, or hand its hosting to an operator. The LaSuite.coop cooperative, for example, offers services inspired by this suite to associations, cooperatives, social economy organisations and institutions. Bunker is another route, described below.

Who is it for?

SMEs and mid-sized companies

You want to leave Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 for legal or cost reasons, without hiring an operations team. We handle hosting and maintenance, you keep ownership of your data.

Local authorities and public bodies

La Suite numérique only covers French central government. A municipality, a regional body or a public institution can hand the hosting of open source tools to a European operator, with a contract and a named contact.

Non-profits and social economy organisations

You share files, calendars and questionnaires with volunteers and partners. You need simple tools hosted in Europe, with data that stays yours.

What changes with a host that operates the tools

Human support

When a user can no longer log in or an update breaks a habit, someone on the team who knows your setup answers. Our service commitments are written in our service level agreement.

Reversible by design

Every building block is open source and stores your data in open formats. You can export your data, switch host or bring the whole stack back onto your own servers whenever you decide.

Private AI inside the suite

The Private GPT assistant runs on models hosted in Europe. Your documents are not sent to a public AI API to be summarised or queried.

One account for everything

With FerrisKey, each user signs in once to every tool. When someone leaves, you disable a single account.

Where your data goes

Sovereignty is checked tool by tool, subprocessors included. For our managed services:

  • Databases: PostgreSQL replicated with CloudNativePG, on our own cluster.
  • Authentication: self-hosted OIDC SSO (FerrisKey), in your organisation's own identity realm.
  • Outgoing e-mail: SMTP relay from IONOS, a German company, so within the European Union.
  • Backups: internal S3 storage (MinIO) operated by Bunker.

None of these subprocessors is under US jurisdiction: the CLOUD Act does not apply, and no foreign authority can demand access to your data through them. The full list is on our subprocessors page.

Self-host or use a hosting operator?

The software is the same. What changes is who runs it.

Self-hosting Hosting operated by Bunker
Installation and updates Your team Bunker
Backups and monitoring To set up and test Included, S3 storage in Europe
Single sign-on To integrate tool by tool FerrisKey, already connected
User support In-house Human support
Data location Wherever your servers are Europe
Reversibility Full Full: same software, open formats

How to get started

  1. 1.

    A first conversation

You describe your current tools, your users and your constraints (GDPR, public procurement, sensitive data).

  2. 2.

    A clear scope

We propose the right building blocks among those we operate, and a migration plan from your current tools.

  3. 3.

    Go-live

We deploy, connect accounts to SSO, migrate the data, then stay your day-to-day contact.

Frequently asked questions

Who can host a digital workplace suite for a company?

There are three options. You can self-host the open source software on your own servers, if you have a team to run it. You can join a cooperative organisation such as LaSuite.coop. Or you can hand hosting and operations to an operator such as Bunker, which hosts in Europe, handles updates, backups and support, and lets you take back control whenever you want.

Does Bunker host the French State's La Suite numérique?

No. La Suite numérique is operated by the French State for public servants, and Bunker has no link with DINUM. Bunker hosts and operates open source building blocks, the same ones or their equivalents, for private and public organisations that cannot use the State's suite.

How is this different from LaSuite.coop?

LaSuite.coop is a French collective-interest cooperative that offers collaboration services (video, notes, chat, files, spreadsheet) hosted in Europe, mainly for associations, cooperatives, social economy organisations and institutions, which can become members. Bunker is a company that hosts and operates a catalogue of open source building blocks, with the infrastructure around them (databases, Kubernetes, private AI), for companies and public bodies alike. Both approaches rely on free software; the right choice depends on the tools you need and the contractual framework you are looking for.

Which digital workplace tools does Bunker operate today?

File storage and transfer (SFTPGo), single sign-on (FerrisKey), password vault (Vaultwarden), e-signature (DocuSeal), calendar and appointment booking (Cal.diy), customer support (Chatwoot), questionnaires (LimeSurvey), private AI (Private GPT), ERP (Odoo), dashboards (Metabase) and managed PostgreSQL. Nextcloud is available on your own servers as part of our SIOU suite. For any other tool, describe what you need.

Is my data subject to the CLOUD Act?

No. Hosting is in Europe, and our subprocessors for these services (databases, authentication, outgoing e-mail, backups) are European. None of them is under US jurisdiction. Note that Bunker is not SecNumCloud-qualified: if your regulations require it, tell us in the first conversation.

Can I get my data back if I change provider?

Yes. The building blocks are open source and use open formats. You can export your data at any time, hand it to another host running the same software, or reinstall it on your own servers. That is the idea behind the reversible cloud.

La Suite numérique is a service of the French interministerial digital directorate (DINUM); LaSuite.coop is a collective-interest cooperative; Google Workspace is a trademark of Google LLC. These names are cited for information and comparison. Bunker has no commercial link or affiliation with DINUM, ANCT or LaSuite.coop, and is not SecNumCloud-qualified. Facts observed in October 2026 from these organisations' public websites.
